Residency

For decades, people with disabilities have lived outside the city and have been represented as a body, an object of care, before being considered as people in their own right. The project carried out by the association APF France handicap Occitanie and the Boutographies aims to raise awareness of disability and to get out of the traditional representations through the author's photography.

ARTIST LAURENCE BRIAT

Laurence Briat

Text

Laurence Briat doesn't hesitate to cut up and recut a number of visuals from old and new magazines to tirelessly reconstruct what forms her universe, a certain suggestion of her thoughts.

His collages, which are what we're talking about, use a variety of media (painting, engraving, photography, photogravure). A highly personal vision, imbued with finesse and sensitivity, emerges from his works.

Most often made from old materials with their textures and wounded forms, his collages also confront the old with the modernity of the present. Here and there, a myriad of fragmented images from old and contemporary magazines meet and clash. Her works are adorned with colours and shapes that reveal strength, temporality and sensitivity, offering us an image to reflect on in the face of our worlds and our questioning.

By assembling fragmented pieces, collage illustrates the complexities of disability through storytelling.
