Biographie
Originally from Valence, Laurence Briat lives and works near Montpellier.
Trained at the Beaux-arts in Marseille, Laurence Briat is an artist with a passion for images and their construction.
To achieve this, she has no hesitation in cutting up and recutting a number of visuals found in old and new magazines to tirelessly reconstruct what forms her universe, a certain suggestion of her thoughts.
Présentation
The collage of fragmented pieces is a powerful metaphor for expressing the complexities of disability. By moving away from "standardized" perceptions, I sought to reflect the diversity of experiences and emotions associated with disability. By dismantling and recomposing representations, superimposing and repairing fragments of images, I remind us of the extent to which the disabled body is capable of resilience and adaptation in the face of change. Elements placed asymmetrically or unbalanced, dissonant or seemingly out of place, illustrate the disruptions or ruptures in the life of a disabled person. I also played with transparency and concealment in an attempt to portray the invisibility of certain disabilities.
Marked by interruptions and gaps, my collages evoke the fragility of the disabled body, while celebrating resilience in the face of challenges, creativity and the beauty of difference in its imperfection and singularity.
