Biographie

Based in Montpellier, Nanda Gonzague is a documentary photographer primarily interested in social and environmental issues. Co-founder of Collectif Transit in 2002, with whom he worked on a number of projects until 2015, he has been a member of Divergence Images since 2019. His projects have given rise to books, exhibitions and publications. Armenia and Ethiopia in the throes of change, working-class neighbourhoods and asbestos victims in France are just some of the projects he has been able to carry out over the long term. At the same time, he works regularly with the press and institutions, teaches photography at ESJ Pro Montpellier and has been involved in image and media education for many years.

Présentation

Nanda Gonzague proposes to document the daily life of Simon, a young man of 25 living near Narbonne. He has no use of his lower limbs as a result of Cerebral Palsy, which causes high blood pressure in his muscles. Simon can't get around without his wheelchair or walker, but he shows great determination, courage and resilience in his daily life. With the help of his family and carers, Simon goes through his young life with all the constraints of a motor disability, but at the same time, he invites us to follow him onto the playing fields where he seems to transcend his infirmity. Sport, voluntary work, friendships and family relationships make him a young disabled person "who feels upright when able-bodied people are sometimes on their knees".
