Biographie
Born in Belgium in 1989, Lionel Jusseret is a documentary photographer. His works, internationally recognized and rewarded, mix an anthropological look with a personal aesthetics of color. After completing his studies at INSAS in 2012, a Belgian film school, he photographed autistic children within the French association J'interviendrais. In search of unpredictable images, Jusseret works in the intimacy of his subject. After almost eight years of immersion, he closed his first series Kinderaks. A book, edited by Loco Edition, was published in 2020. Between 2018 and 2020 he worked in a retirement home to get closer to the elderly and created the new series Les Impatientes published again at Loco in 2022. These last two years, he collaborated with several peasant families before drawing a portrait of the new generation of farmers in France. This new documentary, Kolostrum, is initially part of the artist’s residency 'le champ des impossibles' in the Perche region of Normandy.
Lionel Jusseret lives in Brussels. He is a professor of photography at the Academy of Fine Arts in Wavre.
Présentation
The series "Kolostrum" portrays the daily life of a few dairy farming families whose operations lie economically between small, self-sufficient farms and large agribusiness industries. Despite the current challenges facing agriculture—such as the declining interest in farming careers, dire economic conditions, and 55-hour workweeks—the French and Belgian farmers featured in this series love their profession above all else and remain deeply, viscerally attached to their animals.
