Biographie
Elena Bulet i Llopis is a visual artist from Barcelona whose practice explores family dynamics, behavioral patterns and memory processes in Spain. She works through photography, experimental video and installation.
His photographic process is born from dialogues with archives, interviews and memories that, combined with playful elements, allow him to reimagine past situations and open new spaces of connection.
She obtained a Master of Fine Arts, with a specialization in photography, at the Rhode Island School of Design (2024), thanks to a scholarship from the Fundación La Caixa (2021). Previously, she obtained a degree in journalism at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (2020). More recently, she received the scholarship from the Institut d'Estudis Fotogràfics de Catalunya during the Art Photo BCN 2025 festival.
Elena’s work has been exhibited internationally, notably at the ICP Museum and NADA East Broadway in New York, as well as at the RISD Museum in Rhode Island, among others. She has also exhibited in Spain, where she recently presented her first solo exhibition in Barcelona, at the Espai Fotogràfic Can Basté
Présentation
"Zarcillo" explore a phantasmagorical universe in the Axarquía region of Andalusia, where the memory of the dead intertwines with the reality of the living. Inspired by family stories from Almayate—the birthplace of a grandmother exiled under Franco—the project captures traces of history, hinting at what is known but unseen. Blending documentation and poetry, the terrifying and the surreal, past and present, it plays on the dual meaning of zarcillo (both a livestock brand and a plant tendril). The work uncovers the silences, rituals, and buried violence embedded in the landscape, evoking the awakening after a catastrophe.
