An old proverb from Chemnitz’s time of glory says, « In Chemnitz the money is earned, in Leipzig it is invested, and in Dresden it is spent ». Today, Chemnitz is the town with the highest average age in Germany, and which is renowned for the activity of its far-right movements. For the youth, it is perhaps the empty sites and decrepitude that could provide space for liberty and renewal, as if depression and melancholy conjure a certain strangeness as an antidote to anxiety and vacuousness.
