Biographie
Loes de Boer (b. 1999) is a photographer based in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. Her work is rooted in personal reflection and addresses issues of archiving, memory and visibility, with a particular focus on queer and women-centered histories. Deconstruction and metamorphosis are central to her practice: images are reshaped through manipulation, sequencing, repetition and shifts in context. This approach often results in installations and publications. In addition to her personal work, she applies these methods to projects in fashion, art, music and media.
Mayte Breed (née en 1997) est une artiste d’Egmond, basée à Amsterdam. Formée en photographie et biologie, elle aborde son environnement comme un champ d’observation. Son travail se concentre sur la relation entre les humains, la nature et l’environnement bâti, sur les moments où ceux-ci se chevauchent, interfèrent ou se croisent. Présentation
Loes de Boer and Mayte Breed each present an autonomous work. The works are connected through a shared condition: De Boer drove a car while Breed made her images, and Breed drove while De Boer photographed. Each thus operates as the other’s driver. The driver navigates, the passenger observes, and meaning emerges in the shifting relationship between the two. This condition structures the exhibition, resulting in Ringweg, a study of Amsterdam’s A10 through continuous movement, and 80 photographs, 6 minutes, a sunset and 3 clouds, a sequence capturing a sunset during a drive after her father’s funeral. Their partnership extends into the work as a dynamic exchange between caring and being cared for.
With the work 80 photographs, 6 minutes, a sunset and 3 clouds, Loes de Boer created an image montage exploring loss and time. Eighty images were taken during a sunset while driving away from her father’s funeral last year. These photographs remain all that connect her to him, after a long and difficult estrangement since childhood. This work serves as a piece of memory, an ode, and ultimately closure.
In the Ringweg, Mayte Breed explores the ring road around Amsterdam, the A10, from the perspective of a moving vehicle. Her fascination with this repetitive organism, as she calls it, was the starting point of the series. Mayte Breed, sees it as an ecosystem where people come and go. It is a place of constant change that also remains familiar. The stationary road crosses water, neighborhoods and open spaces, crossing people in their metal bubbles. In her visual search, Mayte Breed remains in constant motion, driving endlessly along the circular A10.
