"The Island of the Sun is located on the shores of Lake Titicaca at 3800m altitude. Ancient sacred place, legends say that the sun was formed in its sacred rock and from it came Manco Capac and Mamma Occlio (Adam and Eve) to found the city of Cusco and the Inca Empire. Today it is inhabited by three Aymara communities.
Two hours by boat from the nearest city, it has remained relatively isolated for a long time, until the entry of tourism not many years ago.
The island maintains ancestral rites, llama sacrifices or night ceremonies high in the mountains. It is a magical place, eagles predict people's destiny; approximately every hundred years a woman is born capable of turning into fire and flying; gold that appears and disappears predicting the death of those who find it; souls that attack at night; a city sunken in the lake from which gold and ceramic figures are taken and some even say that the island is Noah's Ark and that the lake was formed as a result of the Universal Flood.
I was there for the first time in 2006 and since then I have returned seven more times, first attracted by the landscape and the calm that you breathe there, then I began to see that the island is much more, a way of understanding the world around them completely different from the West.
