Présentation

As a little girl you become an American Indian - you dream of space and independence, you put a headband on your forehead to hold your long hair, you dress in trousers. You don't know, then, that Indians survive on reserves.
With time, you become an adult, the choices become clearer. You take the blows by telling yourself that it's the common lot, you make your life with a woman and her child. It's getting better, it's going well.
And suddenly the signals turn red. When an agency asked her to do a report on the Manif pour Tous, Marie said no. She said she was not going to do it. Impossible to photograph them, these crowds that banish the rainbow colours from their world in pink and blue.
Instead, Marie rummaged through her archives, through her memories, she tattooed on her photos the violence of the reactionary arguments taken up by traditionalists of all stripes. Her book, Alors je suis devenue une Indien d'Amérique... tells the story, in words and images, of a courageous and lucid awareness that captures the shock in all its brutality.
