Up until the 1980’s, lake Balaton, the biggest lake in central Europe, was a major tourist destination for the Hungarian working class, or for those from Eastern Europe. After a decline following the collapse of the communist block, the destination has regained its lustre under a different form. Property speculation, luxury resorts and mass tourism have invaded the region, and present a disparate image of a Hungary in search of new values.
