Présentation

“Cities, like in dreams, are built on desires and fears,” Italo Calvino wrote in The Invisible Cities.
Nanjiecun ("The south street village") continues to be managed under Maoist egalitarian rules. This series takes us to the only still Maoist village in China where people really seem to be the actors of a huge epic chronicle. A place where the community seems to be in control of its own happiness, where everyone receives free accommodation, where electricity and health care are free. Nanjiecun village presents itself as a model of communist ideology in the land of Mao Zedong. The project was carried out in collaboration with the inhabitants.
