'Las Flores°dos>is a project that explores a parent-child relationship marked by loss, silence, death, life and reconciliation. My father, Margarito, died when I was 15 years old, but it wasn’t until the age of 30 that I learned that it was a suicide. It was then that I began to revisit the images, places and memories that were attached to him. Margarito, a gardener by profession, wrote a farewell letter in which he talked about plants and said: "Forgive me and communicate with me."
After this revelation, I revisited the family archives and the last garden where my father had worked, using various digital processes to modify the images. By browsing through family albums and manipulating the data of the photographs they contain, I deconstruct the images and stories associated with them, using glitch or numerical error. From this experimentation, I create new images that are metaphors of the «corrupted memory».
At the same time, a three-dimensional representation of the garden using photogrammetry evokes the plasticity of memories, represented by the plants that my father cultivated and which are still alive today. I seek to give form to his absence through images, and to establish a dialogue between our worlds. Photography serves as a starting point to question personal narratives and create from scratch a new universe, nourished by the presence of plants.
My approach to photography is central to the production process. I am interested in how technological interventions modify the primary meaning of an image, broadening the medium towards new uses, producing territories where one can gather meaning, evoke transmission processes, claim a heritage.
This project is my response to the last words written by my father and an invitation to reflect on all the relationships we have formed, which continue to exist after death.
