Biographie

Le Mur rouge is an exhibition space dedicated to contemporary photography in Montpellier. It brings together two associations that manage it, the association Objectif Image and the association Grain d'Image.
A service of the place is offered to all photographers wishing to present a work, whether they live or not in Montpellier.

Présentation

In the run-up to the bicentenary of photography, the red wall offers a look back at 200 years of evolution of photographic techniques and materials that also tell the story of the image. One does not go without the other, to explain and above all understand what photography is, from yesterday to today. From the wooden box, where it took several hours to capture a shot, to the first digital cameras and mobile phones, the exhibition will present some old cameras, mostly film and vernacular photographs that will trace this long history.
The photograph is an old lady in full health for her bicentenary. About 5 billion photos are taken every day; 93% are taken by smartphones. From the wooden box of Nicéphore Niépce in 1826 with his "point de vue du Gras à Saint Loup de Varennes" to the last camera that phones and shares images on the internet, two centuries of technical developments separate our points of view.
