Avenue Royale

Présentation

Launched over thirty years ago, the Avenue Royale project in Casablanca—declared a public utility—aims to create an iconic boulevard at the heart of the metropolis. It involves demolishing the extramural medina’s housing, deemed unsanitary, and relocating its residents. But the project has stalled. Meanwhile, people live between. Between past and future. Between standing walls and rubble. Between the fear of eviction and the hope of a real home. Between a neighborhood they can no longer inhabit and another they don’t want to move to. In recent months, with the approach of the World Cup, the project has been revived and is expected to deliver the new urban infrastructure before 2030.
