McDowell County, in the state of West Virginia, is partly situated in the wooded mountains of the Appalachians, once one of the richest areas in America, thanks to coal mining. In certain ghost towns, gradually returning to nature, children no longer live with their parents, but with their grandparents, and are often left to their own devices. They are no longer educated, but simply brought up. What perspectives can this uncertain start in life offer?
