Biographie

Born in Belgium in 1975, Sébastien Cuvelier works and lives in Luxembourg where he had the opportunity to exhibit his work multiple times. He also benefits from a more international visibility having, for example, shown his series Gypsy Queens in Poland in 2015, and having his other serie Baliem become part of the permanent exhibition of the Museum Volkenkunde of Leiden, Netherlands, from 2013 to 2017 as well.
His approach of photography focuses mainly on the notions of documentary and storytelling, with a noticeable attraction toward topics revolving around community.

Présentation

The word Paradise comes from the ancient Persian Paridaida, literally "enclosed garden". When the Greeks invaded Persia, they were so dazzled by the royal gardens that they appropriated the word, which become paradeisos in Greek. Today, what is the paradise dreamt of by the Iranian youth, between galloping urbanization, nostalgia for a bygone past and temptations of exile in the West?
