Natalia Kepesz is born in 1983 in Poland. She lives and works in Berlin since 2008. After graduating in cultural studies and art history at the Humboldt University Berlin, she studied photography at the Ostkreuzschule Berlin from 2017 to 2020. Her works have been exhibited at the Künstlerhaus Bethanien, Schloss Biesdorf, during Biennale Fotofestival Mannheim 2019 and during Month of Photography OFF 2018.
By photographing, she transforms her own childhood memories. Growing up was always accompanied by the urge to discover something else. She photographs to better understand her reality, and to express her interpretation of the world around her.
Natalia was C/O Berlin Talent Award 2020 Nominee, shortlisted for Athens Photo Festival 2020 and won third place in the Muenzenberg Art Competition 2020 in Berlin.
My place of birth, Goldberg in Lower Silesia, has only been within the borders of Poland for half a century. Whole family histories have been rewritten, millions of people compulsively repatriated and regions relocated. Growing up was always accompanied by the urge to discover something else in my own family history. It seemed as if a secret was hidden. The search for the hidden, the mysterious is for me the metaphor of the elementary of every human being - the question of their own origin.
