Biographie
Marie Lukasiewicz (Paris, 1982) is a French artist living and working in Seine-Saint. Her artistic practice is
focuses on environmental and pollution issues. Very concerned about ecology, she deepens
his work by combining it with strong scientific support. The boundary between reality and fiction is always tenuous in his
photographic projects and derision also play an important role. She works with different media,
mainly photography, but also video, sound and text.
She obtained a degree in photography at the Ecole nationale supérieure Louis Lumière in 2006 after a preparatory certificate in photography at the University of Paris 8 in 2003, a BTS in visual communication at the Ecole supérieure Estienne, Paris in 2002 and a Baccalaureate in applied arts at the École supérieure Estienne, Paris in 2000.
She exhibits in several European countries such as Finland - Gallery Himmelblau, in Greece at the festival, Benaki Museum, in Holland at the Noorderlicht Fotofestival in Gröningen, in Belarus, in Portugal where she will be the winner of the Discovery Prize at the Estone Da Imagen festival in Braga, and in many other countries including France, at the Boutographies in 2016

Corals appear in history as talismans against evil, as coveted collectibles, and as creatures endowed with healing powers. Philosophers, naturalists and writers have evoked these mysterious beings. In the real world as in fiction, the extreme diversity of their shapes, textures and colors has fascinated humans throughout history. They have a glorious past, but an uncertain future. More than 40% of the world’s coral reefs have been destroyed in the last thirty years, due to pollution, ocean warming and destructive fishing methods. How can such wonder and abuse coexist? In Beyond Coral White, this marine animal illustrates the paradoxical attitude of humanity towards the natural world. Inspired by a 17th century engraving by Philips Galle that depicts the plundering of the seabed, Marie Lukasiewicz developed a multi-level visual investigation into coral bleaching and destruction, and the exploitation of its properties in the parapharmaceutical industry. Mixing documentary and fiction in her artistic practice, she questions our persistent and destructive consumption habits. His work murmurs: we are nature that destroys itself.
