Biographie
Jannemarein Renout first studied law at the University of Amsterdam, from 1990 to 1995, and completed her Masters Degree. Between 2011 and 2014, she continued studying there, shifting to a Bachelor of Arts (photography major).
Présentation
The "SCAN2400" series embodies the achievement of a photographic project which aims at showing what cannot be seen; the passing of time, captured into one single image. What ensues is a pure mental representation, stripped of both intention and composition. How do you use the photographic medium to fix time onto a 2D surface whilst at the same time creating a singular visual language?
I shoot using a scnanning device. Like those you would usually find in an office. I use it outside, I point it at the sky or at its own reflection in water.
Rather than a stable source of light - that of the scanner itself -, the device is exposed to the irregularity of natural light. Thus, it feeds on unreliable information, as the main charasteristic of natural light is precisely its variability. The unpredictable nature of the information garantees that the result can neither be foreseen nor controlled.
