Biographie
Born in 1968, Heiko Tieman studied photography at the Folkwang Hochschule in Essen, then at the Royal College of Art in London. Since 1996 he has exhibited in numerous prestigious galleries and institutions in Germany, England, Italy and Japan. Since 2001 he has had four one-man shows in Essen, Bremen, at the Goethe Institute in London and at the Tina Miyake studio in Dusseldorf.
Présentation
For ten years now Heiko Tieman has assiduously created this gallery of portraits which feature family and friends as well as strangers. Little by little they provide him with the indications, gestures and expressions which inspire the scenes he photographs. These images go to the heart of the tensions which surround the act of portraiture: conflicting temptations to show or to hide, to reveal all or become opaque, to ignore the other or to act in reaction to him.
