Biographie

Frédéric Durieu and Nathalie Erin form an inseparable pair in life as well as in their activity. They are a cohesive creative entity. Together, they have been deploying for ten years a singular universe where mathematical rigor meets musical sensitivity, giving birth to a new form of art: the "Algorithmic Poetry".
The legacy of a pioneer of interactive art The story begins with Frédéric Durieu. Polytechnic Engineer, he is one of the figures of digital art in Belgium and France. For more than 35 years, he has been exploring the dialogue between man and machine, creating his own software tools to transform code into emotion. He has exhibited at the Pompidou Centre, the Museum of Modern Art in Paris, the Palais de Tokyo and the Design Museum in London. His innovative work was crowned by the SACD New Entries Award, the SCAM Grand Prix and the Moebius International Grand Prix.

THE CREATION FUSION :
The Duo Erin-Durieu Ten years ago, his meeting with Nathalie Erin marks a turning point. Artist and musician, Nathalie brings to the rigor of the code an organic dimension, a scenographic writing and, above all, the choice of music bringing an essential sound identity to the work as well as the rhythm of the animations. Their method of creation is unique in the world. Rejecting the ease of generative AI, Frédéric wrote an algorithm with 45,000 lines that serves as their "digital brush". This program does not invent anything alone; it is the instrument that the duo leads to compose paintings of an astonishing density, made up of thousands of photographic elements.

AN EXPERIENCE UN THREE TENSES : The Awakening of the Painting
Their works offer a progressive reading:
1. Immersion: Up close, the eye is lost in an abundance of photographic details (flowers, insects, textures).
2. The Vision: With hindsight, the global image emerges, revealing the strength of the subject.
3. Life (Augmented Reality): Via the free Artivive application, the painting comes alive on the viewer’s smartphone. The work breathes, moves and sings.

ARTIVISM : "5 Minutes In My Skin"
Beyond aesthetics, the duo is driven by a deep humanist commitment. In the face of the scourge of sexist violence, they created (with Gilles de Boncourt) "5 Minutes In My Skin" (also known as Masculine Poetry). This monumental harassment simulator (a 9x4x4m tunnel) is an immersive and multisensory experience designed to bring men into the daily life of a woman harassed in public space. Tool for radical awareness, this work proves that digital art can be a powerful vector for social change. The next exhibition will take place at the Brussels stock exchange in March on the occasion of International Women’s Day.

INSTITUTIONAL RECOGNITION :
Their work on Nature, Femininity and Respect has found a particular echo in the Occitanie region. Their works illuminated the Musée Fabre during 'Cœur de Ville en Lumière', and they received the gold medal of the Beaux-Arts de Béziers in 2022. In 2023, the President of the Carole Delga Region chose Frédéric Durieu and Nathalie Erin to officially represent the artistic creation of Occitania at the Art Montpellier exhibition, thus consecrating their essential place in the contemporary artistic landscape.

Far from generative AI, they jointly create their works thanks to a 45,000-line code that has become their unique brush. Their paintings, composed of thousands of photographic fragments, offer an experience in three stages: the infinite detail, the global image, and finally life. Thanks to augmented reality, the static work comes alive and becomes sound, revealing the hidden dimension of the subject. It is an ode to Nature and femininity where technique fades away to teach us again to look at the world around us.
