Biographie
After my studies at the ENSAD (Ecole nationale supérieure des Arts décoratifs de Paris), I lived in Chile, where I directed Les Naufragés (2013-2017) in the Atacama desert. With the series La couleur de la grenade (exhibited at Les Boutographies in 2024), I took a look at Armenian youth and the traces left by thirty years of conflict and by the still vivid memory of genocide. Today I am developing a personal work focused on youth, individual dual narratives and places of withdrawal or confinement – whether physical, social or symbolic. Between 2024 and 2025, I conducted a project entitled Seize et demi in a juvenile prison, with the support of the ADAGP.
Alongside my personal projects and exhibitions, I regularly collaborate with the press in the context of reports or portraits, as well as with institutions and NGOs. Attached to collective work, I also participate in artistic and cultural education projects. Since 2024, I have been a temporary lecturer in the Master’s program on journalistic news at the University of Lyon II.
Présentation
"The Colour of the Pomegranate" is a long-term documentary photography project haunted by one question: is there a tomorrow after tomorrow? A drift guided by the vibrant gaze of a youth born in the rubble of Armenia, heir to a history whose complexity and unfathomable violence continue to resonate today. At the heart of this very real dream, where should we look? The West, the East, Russia? In the midst of fragmented landscapes and separated people, where should we sail? To an island with no coastline, where the bonds that unite, the glimpses that illuminate, the mountains that grow are still being created.
On a more personal level, it's also the unconscious, sleepwalking awakening of a sense of belonging to this culture, of which, despite my name, I knew almost nothing. A few childhood memories, like a mixture of smells, looks and faces, and now the desire to follow the trail of my ancestors and their history. From their native Cilicia (a province in the south of Anatolia), they left to work in the textile workshops in the Armenian districts of Bursa, in the province of Constantinople, until the events of 1915 led them first to Lebanon, and finally to France.
The title "The Colour of the Pomegranate" is a nod to the poet Sayat Nova, who wrote in all the languages of the Caucasus: Russian, Armenian, Georgian and Azerbaijani. The pomegranate, a symbol of sweetness and bitterness, is a fruit that is very present in society.
