Biographie
Born in 1984, Alexandre Mayeur started in computers before studying photography at Paris 8 University, where he discovered the theory of art and began a study of the image as document. He went on to join the Ecole des Arts Décoratifs, obtaining his diploma in 2011, after having spent a year at the Peking Art School. In parallel with his studies, he worked as an assistant to a fashion photographer. His work seeks new associations between the commercial aesthetic and a documentary style.
Présentation
Alexandre Mayeur stages his photos of ‘exotic’ or ‘typical’ restaurants in settings that are already caricatures and clichés, of which nobody can be ignorant, least of all the employees and owners of the establishments. The decor of these restaurants plays a major role, in which the lighting reveals the smallest detail, saturating the colours and the symbols, as in the scenery of a theme park. The people who work there play out their own roles, like actors assuming their parts with distance and humour.
