Présentation
Shortly before Christmas I exchanged my apartment in Berlin for a teak deck chair at Tropical Islands (theme park near Berlin). Fascinated by the absurdity and diversity of this place, which strikingly mirrors social conditions in a concentrated form, I spent New Year's Eve and many other days and nights at 26°C surrounded by palm trees and a sky made of steel. My relation to the Tropical Islands is characterized by ambivalence. On the one hand I am fascinated by the happiness and entertainment value of this place on the other hand I reject that philistine lifeless imitation of a rainforest. Tropical Islands displays a replicated world - photographs of it are a reproduction of a reproduction. An attempt to capture something inexistent, appointed to fail from the very beginning.
