Présentation

Displacement and identity are recurring themes in Ali's work. He tells his personal narrative through the association of a collection of objects and intimate moments, using sequence as his structure. His family's history is essential to his research; Ali is a post-revolution second-generation Iranian living in the UK. His aunt Afsaneh, who dedicated herself to his education, raised him. As many Iranians who fled the revolution in 1979, her life revolved around exile. Whether she found happiness in this "privileged" lifestyle or not, he does not know for sure. To Ali, she remained this young girl who was torn from the motherland in her teens and did not know if she would ever be going back. She never did.

"Afsaneh, Box III" is the telling of Afsaneh Mobasser's journey (1957-2013) - narrated simply through official identification documents and school reports. It takes us back, through a life of exile in the UK, to the happier moments of her life, when she was a well-off young girl in Iran.
